What came in

Four months is a long time to drive around in Florida with no passenger window and no A/C. By the time this Enclave came to us, the owner had been to three separate shops and had nothing to show for it except time and frustration. None of the shops had been able to find the cause.

That pattern — multiple shops, no resolution — is something we see regularly on GM electrical problems. It's not always that the shops are incompetent. It's that electrical faults of this kind don't show up on a code scanner, and if your diagnostic process starts and ends with plugging in a reader, you're going to miss them every time.

Why scanners don't find everything

OBD-II code scanners are built to read fault codes from the engine, transmission, and emissions systems. They are genuinely useful tools for a specific class of problems. But a passenger window that won't roll down? A corroded connection in a door harness? A water-damaged circuit that's intermittently losing continuity? Those don't generate codes. They don't show up in any scan tool data stream. They're invisible to that whole diagnostic approach.

Finding them requires a different method: a multimeter, continuity testing, voltage readings at every relevant point in the circuit, and the patience to follow the circuit from one end to the other until the fault shows up.

Where we looked first — and why

When a passenger window stops working, the instinct is to look at the passenger door. That's where the window is. That's where the motor and regulator are. Makes sense.

But on the Buick Enclave, the wiring for the passenger window runs through the driver's door harness first — the main door module that controls the whole system. Water intrusion in the driver's door is a known issue on these vehicles, and when that harness gets wet, the corrosion doesn't stay contained. It spreads through the connections and can kill circuits that have nothing obvious to do with the driver's door.

We started by tracing continuity through the circuit. Junction by junction, connection by connection, working from the known-good end toward the fault. When we got to the driver's door harness connector, the reading changed. That was it.

The fault was in the driver's door. The window that wasn't working was the passenger window. Three shops had spent four months looking at the wrong side of the car.

What we fixed while we were there

Once the electrical trace was done and the window circuit was repaired, we went through the rest of the vehicle. The A/C had a high pressure line issue — fixed that. The hood needed to be replaced; we sourced one from a junkyard to keep the cost down. The bumper and hitch were worn out — replaced both.

That's the mobile repair approach: when we're already there and the car is already in pieces, it makes sense to handle everything that needs handling. One visit, one bill, done.

What this means if your GM has an electrical problem

If you have a window, door lock, A/C electrical issue, or any accessory that's stopped working on a Buick Enclave, Encore, Chevy Trax, Equinox, or related GM vehicle — and a shop has already tried and failed to find it — it is very likely a circuit fault that requires hands-on tracing to find.
